Patients with sleep apnea may have a greater risk for postoperative delirium. The incidence of postoperative delirium was reported to be 53% for patients with sleep apnea compared to 20% in patients without sleep apnea.⁸ In cardiac surgery, patients with moderate to severe sleep apnea experienced a 6-fold increased risk of postoperative delirium.⁹
